Sarah Palin, Star of 2008's Republican National Convention, Won't Speak at This Year's

BELLEVILLE, MI, - JULY 14: Sarah Palin, former Governor of Alaska and 2008 Republican Vice Presidential candidate speaks at a "Patriots in the Park" Tea Party rally at the Wayne County Fairgrounds July 14, 2012 in Belleville, Michigan. "This year is a good opportunity for other voices to speak at the convention and I’m excited to hear them," wrote Sarah Palin in a statement on Fox News host Greta Van Susteren's blog. Those other voices will include tea-party senate candidate Ted Cruz, Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker, former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, and the person who helped deliver Palin from Alaska to the national stage at the Republican National Convention on September 3, 2008 — John McCain.

It's not entirely clear if she sought a speaking role, didn't like the time slot the RNC offered, or decided on her own that she'd be better off elsewhere than as a sideshow to Paul Ryan and Mitt Romney. A party official tells Buzzfeed that Palin was invited to speak. Said Chairman of the Republican National Committee Reince Priebus, "Gov. Palin has been a force in our party and while I am disappointed she won't be in Tampa I know she will continue to be actively engaged in replacing Barack Obama."

Andrew Cuomo to Attend Democratic Convention Wearing Fedora, Sunglasses, Fake Mustache

NEW YORK - FEBRUARY 24: New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo gives a press conference about recalled Toyota cars February 24, 2010 in New York City. Cuomo, thought to be a possible candidate for New York governor, has reached an agreement with the car company to provide Toyota owners in New York with alternative transportation and other perks in the aftermath of the massive recall of Toyota automobiles. That's a slight exaggeration on our part, but we wouldn't be totally surprised if it turned out to be true. While Cuomo is presumed to be eyeing a presidential run in 2016, he doesn't want the speculation to get out of control too early (as it did with his father after his 1984 convention address), and consequently, he's decided to make himself barely noticeable at the Democratic National Convention in early September, the Wall Street Journal reports:

If people try to talk to him or take photos with him, he will pretend to be Fandrew Cuomo, Andrew Cuomo's twin brother who only speaks Italian.

Bill Clinton to Deliver Major Speech at Democratic Convention

Although he's repeatedly veered off the Obama re-election campaign message and generated fodder for Obama's Republican rival, the Times reports that it will be announced on Monday that former President Bill Clinton will make a prime time speech at the Democratic National Convention in September. “There isn’t anybody on the planet who has a greater perspective on not just the last four years, but the last two decades, than Bill Clinton,” David Axelrod said on Sunday. “He can really articulate the choice that is before people.”

Indeed he can articulate that choice in Obama's favor, so long as Clinton provides more statements about how a Romney presidency would be "calamitous for our country and the world," and fewer compliments about Romney's "sterling business career at Bain Capital." That, or pushing for the extension of the Bush tax cuts, for which Clinton later apologized. If all else fails: A Bill Clinton thumbs up hologram.
