Family Went Into Business With Romney, Emerged Unscathed

BASALT, CO - AUGUST 02: Republican presidential candidate and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney greets supporters during a campaign event with Republican Governors at Basalt Public High School on August 2, 2012 in Basalt, Colorado. One day after returning from a six-day overseas trip to England, Israel and Poland, Mitt Romney is campaigning in Colorado before heading to Nevada. (Photo by Justin Sullivan/Getty Images) Some Romney business deals don't resemble the last five minutes of The Apprentice.

If you've been watching pro-Obama campaign ads, you might be under the impression that Mitt Romney's primary occupation at Bain Capital was indirectly ruining the lives of middle-class Americans. However, the New York Times has managed to find an average couple who were actually better off following their interaction with Romney.

The paper reports that in the eighties, Romney invested in Texas real estate and wound up renting a home to Timothy and Betty Stamps. After the housing market collapsed in the nineties, Romney decided to unload the homes. The Stamps were offered a chance to buy the house they'd been living in for five years, but they couldn't get a mortgage. “Then I got this phone call, personally, from Mr. Romney, asking if we really wanted to buy the house,” says Timothy Stamps. “I said, yes we did. And he said he would loan us the money. He really helped us when we needed it.”

The couple is still making mortgage payments to Romney and have nothing negative to say about him. The lesson here is clear:  If you can give a first-hand account of a generous Romney business deal, now is the time to come forward. There might be a New York Times cover story in it for you.

Bill de Blasio Tries His Best to Court Business Allies Ahead of Mayoral Run

Bill de Blasio has a reputation in the city’s business community as being somewhat to the left of Noam Chomsky. It’s based on everything from his time as an aide to Mayor David Dinkins to his deep ties with labor unions to, most recently, his support for legislation that would mandate a “living wage” and paid sick leave. That image is unfair — de Blasio is as much a political pragmatist as another one of his mentors, Hillary Clinton — but it’s nevertheless a real political problem as de Blasio, currently the city’s public advocate, prepares to run for mayor in 2013.

So this morning, de Blasio gave a very interesting speech.

There were some useful policy proposals — increase the amount of money the city spends on loans to small businesses; decrease the number of petty fines imposed on small businesses; give priority in city contracting to companies that employ New Yorkers. But the significance was in the tone and the context.

De Blasio delivered his nearly hour-long address at an NYU event sponsored by the Rudin family, one of the city’s best-connected real-estate dynasties, with patriarch Bill Rudin in the front row. He ripped “heavy-handed, rapacious bureaucrats” getting in the way of development, and beat up on the city’s land use approval process and its buildings department, two eternal villains in the business community. And as a badge of business-friendly courage, de Blasio cited his support of Atlantic Yards despite the fierce opposition the project provoked in Park Slope, the neighborhood he represented in the City Council.

“When it came to the criteria that mattered above all others — good jobs and affordable housing,” de Blasio said, “it was clear that Atlantic Yards would help stanch the bleeding in an area facing huge problems of affordability.”

If only that were how things have turned out. The Barclays Center arena will open this fall, but its construction has generated far fewer jobs than promised; the housing at the site — affordable and not — hasn’t materialized at all. De Blasio blamed the economic downturn, Governor George Pataki, and even — to his credit — “my friends at Forest City Ratner,” an allusion to the thousands of dollars that the Atlantic Yards developer has contributed to his campaign.

Today’s speech probably gained de Blasio a few more business friends, and it was an earnest attempt to sketch out how, as mayor, he’d forge a partnership between private industry and government. It was an also an illustration of how he still has plenty of tricky straddling ahead of him.

How to Market a Business Using YouTube

Do you know how to market a business using YouTube? It likely comes as no surprise that YouTube will help get your business seen. YouTube has existed for over 5 years and is without a doubt the most effectual medium for distributing video online. The company, which uses the slogan, "Broadcast Yourself", permits people everywhere to upload and view videos about almost anything. Your business can indeed profit from being represented on this Google-backed media titan. All you need to do is follow a few simple rules.

How to Market a Business Using YouTube
Here is a list of the equipment you will need: a video, a computer, an Internet connection, and a YouTube account (no cost here!). When you first create your YouTube account, a YouTube "Channel" will be created for you. A "Channel" is a user profile where visitors can see all of the content you have ever uploaded.

Uploading YouTube Videos Is Easy
To add new content to YouTube, click the "Upload" link in the upper right area of the YouTube home page. If you didn't already sign in, you will be prompted to sign in to your YouTube account. YouTube has some limitations as to the length of your video content. Keep your video file size to less that 2 GB (2,000 MB or 2,000,000 KB) or about 15 minutes in length and you will not run into upload problems. Keep in mind that High Definition video creates larger files than Standard Definition video for the same length video. Despite the size allowed by YouTube, try to keep the length of your videos to close to 5 minutes to avoid possibly boring your audience.

Finding your video on YouTube
One of the most important components to know about how to market a business using YouTube is associating info to your content. In order for YouTube users to find your content, you are either going to tell them specifically where to find it using a web address of some sort or they are going to search and find it using either the search tool within YouTube itself or another search engine like Google, etc. In fact, in most cases, customers find YouTube content using the search engines. Given that, again, it is paramount that you associate info to your content.

Describe your content
While your video is uploading to the YouTube web site, you can supply some details about the video. In the Video Information section, while filling in a title, description, "tags" and category, it is important to think like the customer you would like to find the video. Think of words people use every day. What will they be searching for? These search terms are called "keywords" or "keyword phrases". For example, if you have a home based business in obedience dog training, people might search on "agility training". Be sure to include these keywords or keyword phrases in each of the title, description, and tag fields. That said, do NOT overload these fields by stuffing too many keywords or keyword phrases into these fields. Keep in mind, people are reading this information too, not just computers, so pick the best keywords or keyword phrases and use them.

In the Broadcasting and Sharing Options section, you have the choice of making the video Public, Private, or Unlisted. In order to make your video available to the largest number of viewers, you will likely want to make your video content Public so viewers can easily find your business. Setting your broadcasts to Private means only those you invite can see your videos. Unlisted means only those with a specific link can see your videos. Private and Unlisted videos are not searchable via search engines like Google, etc.

If you have a local business or wish to market to specific geographic locations, you can dictate a Map Location in the Date and Map section as well. This would be helpful, for example, if a customer searching for the aforementioned obedience dog training customer searched using the "obedience training ridgefield ct" keyword phrase.

YouTube Video Tips
Here are some final tips about how to market a business using YouTube. Make sure you have suitable lighting. Shoot your video outdoors if possible. If you are using a video camera to record yourself or another person indoors, make sure images are well lit and easily visible. If you are creating a video slideshow, use high-quality pictures. Do not use blurry or distorted images in your video slideshows. Viewers will become quickly annoyed, your message will not be well conveyed, and you may lessen the value of your brand.

Video Marketing

So, where do you start?

With the cost of advertising online rising by the day and with so much to learn and implement using paid advertising sources like Google AdWords, it makes sense to focus on at least one area of free advertising to support your lead generation efforts. But which one?

Video marketing is a fast, powerful and increasingly popular form of online advertising and website promotion and the daddy of all video sharing sites is YouTube. Don't be fooled by all those video submission tools out there promising the world. The truth is; get YouTube right and you won't need to look at another video sharing site again and you can wave goodbye to that $97 per month video submitter your mentor so kindly recommended to you. YouTube marketing is the only video sharing site you need to conquer. So, let's get started.

Five video marketing steps to grow your internet business on YouTube;

Channel Design - getting started with YouTube

There are various options to choose when setting up your YouTube channel and you need to take a little bit of time before rushing in to start uploading videos and pushing your latest home based business movie out there for all the world to see. Choose a name for your channel which will tell people what you do and what your videos will be about. Your channel URL will carry the name you chose as a YouTube user too so if you want more chance of getting found by the search engines, do a little keyword research before selecting your user name and work this into your Channel name also. This is the branding part so choose wisely. If you want to brand your company or you as an individual to get found in search for those keywords then place them in your user name and channel title and with a bit of time and effort you will start to surface in the search results.

Video Creation - getting noticed on YouTube

A lot of people get hung up on this one but with so many great, free editing tools available nowadays, creating a video and slapping it into shape could never be easier. I use camptasia (which is not free but is a great video editing tool) but there are equally capable tools you can find straight out of the microsoft cabinet like windows media player which will let you add audio, cut and paste and change titles, font and style on the front and back end of your video file. The trick is to get started, play around a little and then get better. Just do it!

Video Submission - getting results on YouTube

This is the one area you need to conquer to have any chance of featuring on the front page of YouTube and hopefully Google down the line. Get it wrong and you'll be wasting valuable time and possibly money shooting the best video you can put together to see it go nowhere fast. Get it right and you can start to see your video receive the kind of viewing figures reserved for comedy channels, cute girls in short skirts and Hollywood movie trailers. So here goes;

Upload your video on a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday at around 12pm EST. This is the best time to release content onto the net and will give you the best chance to gain viewers within the first 24 hours which the search engines value. Add your chosen keywords into the title, description and tags for the video to help the search engines find it. Ask a few friends to search for your video when it's first released and to vote for it too if they are willing to help as this will add a lot of weight to the video in YouTube's eyes.

(And here's a great tip to keep you ahead of the field)...

Download a free firefox plug in called reload every, install it and run it to refresh your browser and give you video a kick start by adding 100 free views at no cost whatsoever. This will do two things, first tell YouTube your video is getting a few good views and second tell browsers that your video is popular; increasing your chance of additional viewers.

Friends and Subscribers - getting acquainted on YouTube

Adding friends and subscribers is a great way to get some early views on your new releases but don't make the mistake of just adding anyone for the sake of it or they will add little value to your video marketing campaigns. YouTube like to see your videos getting votes, comments and also being watched all the way through so chose wisely when adding friends as these are the people you want to give you a leg up each time you release a new video. The same rules apply the other way too. If you subscribe to a channel, chose the channel wisely and be prepared to vote, comment and support your new YouTube friends. Remember, this is social networking for business and the rule is simple; You scratch my back and I'll scratch yours!

Content Syndication - getting it out there from YouTube and beyond!

Okay, so now you have your video produced, keyword targeted and ready to roll across the internet. Here's the final piece of the puzzle to make sure you get those views and then some. Video syndication! In short, this is about getting it all out there wherever you can and sharing what you have with the world. Sounds complicated? Well, it's not. In fact, it's simple.

Here is a list of great free places to embed, share and syndicate your videos and give them that added push;

WordPress Blogs

Facebook

Squidoo

Hubpages

Google sites

Blogger blogs

There are many more ways to share and promote your YouTube videos to take your internet business to the next level. The bottom line is this; whether you decide to build a Carbon Copy Pro business after reading this review, or any other internet based business, YouTube should be a major part of your marketing strategy, business plan and day to day activity if you want to achieve the level of success you deserve.
