Cops Rough Up and Handcuff 15-Year-Old Girl for Using Her Student MetroCard

The NYPD is investigating an incident involving the roughing up and handcuffing of a 15-year-old girl for using a student MetroCard officers believed was not hers. (Spoiler: They were wrong.) On July 26, summer-schooler Alexis Sumpter was waiting for the A train at 125th Street when two plainclothes officers — who had apparently seen a turnstile light indicating a student card had been swiped — approached her and demanded to know her age.

When Sumpter could not produce an ID, the cops called her a liar and summoned a third officer, who "[pressed] her face against the wall while the two others cuffed her" while saying they "didn't owe an explanation" for the harsh treatment. They then called Sumpter's father, who vouched for her age, but the girl was only uncuffed and released when her mother brought a copy of her birth certificate to the station. There, officers finally explained their reasoning, which was that her daughter "looked like an adult." Take note, teens: There are some disadvantages to looking older than your age — especially when you live in a city with a very, very aggressive police force.

High School Students - Why You Must Display Caution When Using YouTube

Are you a high school student who enjoys using YouTube? You might not only enjoy watching videos on YouTube, but you may also like to make and share your own videos. Even if you are in high school, you can do so with YouTube, as they allow those thirteen and older to share their videos. While this can be fun to do, you need to display some caution when making your videos.

Display caution when making your YouTube videos? If you are wondering why you need to do so, aside from the obvious safety concerns, you might be wondering why all the worry. What you may not realize is that your online content, including your YouTube videos, may be watched by those who are associated with your school. Those views may come from your friends, other classmates, or even school officials. That is why it is extremely important that you thoroughly examine your video content and make sure that no harm can come to you later on.

When it comes to YouTube video content that you should avoid, particularly if you are a high school student, the most obvious is illegal activities. You do not want to have video of yourself or your friends drinking underage, doing drugs, or committing another crime, no matter how minor it may seem. As it was previously mentioned, you never really know who will come across your videos. With the way that high schools and gossip works today, if one of your classmates found a video of yours on YouTube it is likely that they wouldn't keep that video to themselves; they will almost always share it with others that they know.

Another type of video content that you may want to avoid is content that is offensive to other students at your school. This type of content most commonly comes up in video blogs. Many internet users use video blogs to vent their frustrations or talk about their day. If you are a high school student, there is a good chance that you may want to discuss school, your friends, or your classmates. While this is more than possible to do, you will want to refrain from sounding too negative or even threatening. Although you may just be joking, "I'm so mad I could kill her," could be taken out of context by someone viewing your YouTube video, whether it is a video blog or not.

As it was previously mentioned, one of the many individuals who could end up viewing your YouTube videos are your classmates or even school officials. While we would all like to believe that our classmates are cool, not all of them are. Should one of your classmates find a video on YouTube that they found offensive or poor in taste, they may report it to your school. Speaking of your school, your school officials may even come across your YouTube videos, as many schools are now using the internet, namely social networking sites, to monitor their students and their activities. Having illegal activities documented in your YouTube videos could spell trouble for you, in more ways than one.

When it comes to YouTube videos with illegal activities or threats documented in them, the consequences that you suffer, if any, will all depend on the school district in question. It is not uncommon for school districts to suspend students that they find doing illegal activities, even if those activities were not committed on school properties. Should you participate in extra circular activities, including sports, you have find yourself suspended from all sports teams or other school sponsored organizations, temporarily or even permanently. In serious situations, like where threats against other students have been documented, it is not uncommon for the authorities to be contacted.

As you can see, there are serious consequences to not thinking before making and sharing your videos on YouTube. All high school students, including you, are urged to think about your future, before using YouTube as a source of fun entertainment.

So, if your reviewing the latest mobile internet technology or using YouTube video marketing to promote yourself, just be mindful of the impact your YouTube video can have.

A Simple Way to Make Money Using YouTube

YouTube is one of the most visited sites in the world and it also act as second biggest search engine. And that means lots of opportunities. You can take advantage of YouTube's popularity and make money. Here is a simple yet powerful step by step guide for making money using YouTube.

This method is all about going local, though when you master this method you can take it to the next level and go national as well. But if you wanna get your share of YouTube money quickly, focus on your local area. Usually ranking locally for a keyword is much easier, and that is why this method works best with local businesses. We will use YouTube videos to rank well for the keyword since YouTube videos are hot and rank easily for their keywords. Here is what you need to do to make money with YouTube:

Find a local Business

The first step of making money with YouTube is to find a local business. It doesn't matter what kind of business, it could be a restaurant, car repair shop, hair salon, bar, thrift store or whatever. But, this method works best with businesses that can be best presented visually. For this guide lets assume you choose a local bar.

Make a video of the business

Go to the bar owner and tell him or her that you would make a free advertising video for the bar and upload it on YouTube, which will help him gain more business, IF he lets you shoot a short video of his bar. Most local businesses will have no problem with that. In fact they will be happy to let you advertise their business for free.

Take your camcorder and shoot a short video of the bar and what its all about. Be creative, you want to make it as interesting as possible. Maybe ask the owner about any special event they may have, like a karaoke night or free beer for ladies night or what have you and plan to shoot your video that night to capture how people are having fun and are happy and blah blah blah. Remember, you want to make people want to come to this place.

But what if you don't have a camcorder or cant shoot a video for some reason? No worries, you can simply take a few photographs of the bar and the crowd. Capture what you can about this place in a few pictures. Keep it simple and short.

Make a slide show

Use a free tool like Animoto to turn your photos into a professional video slide show. You can also use this tool to enhance your video (if you were able to shoot video) and make it more professional. you can add music, headlines and etc. This free tool lets you crate professional looking slide shows easily. You don't have to be a geek to work with this thing.

Important: Don't forget to place your name, website, phone number or any other info in the beginning and at the end of the video, This is how people can find you if they want a similar video made for their business. This is how you will be making your money!

Upload your video to YouTube

Now, take your video/slide show and upload it to YouTube. After all, the question was how to make money on YouTube! To get the most out of your YouTube video, use rich keywords that describes the video, like local bars in Chicago, best local bar in Chicago, bar in Chicago,...

Next, write a very descriptive summary of the bar and what it is all about. Simply write a review of the bar and link to the bar's website, twitter page, Facebook Page and etc. Most businesses have a website and a page on most big social networking sites these days. If your targeted bar doesn't have it, you just found another opportunity to make some money, offer to create a simple website or Facebook fan page or what have you. But that requires another article. Lets focus back on what we were doing.

Build a few backlinks to your video

Just like many other money making methods that are promoted online, making money with YouTube require a little bit of link building. Though, in most cases you don't have to do much. As I said, ranking locally is pretty easy. So, your video with good keywords and description will likely rank high for its keywords. But, to be on the safe side, you can build a few backlinks to the video to help it rank higher. All you have to do is write a few articles related to bars and include a link pointing back to your video (of course with your keyword as anchor text) and submit to a few top article directories. You can also upload your video to other video sites as well.

Competitors keep an eye on each other

This is all based on one very important fact, competitors always keep an eye on each other. So, pretty soon your video will be seen by other local bars. And as any sane competitor would want to do, they would want to be the one on that video. That's where your business info in the beginning and at the end of your video comes to play.

You have got clients

Prepare to receive calls from local bars wanting to pay you to make a video for them to help them promote their business. It really is that simple. Don't make it complicated for yourself, Just do it. You can always add things to it and make changes here and there. You will learn as you go along. The important thing is to get started.

Remember, you don't have to limit yourself to bars, you can use this method for any other local business, as long as you can make a video of it and put it on YouTube.

This is a method I used and still use myself. I work as a flooring installer offline and have my own business. I used this method myself and soon I was getting calls from other floor installers who wanted me to do the same for them (they didn't know I was also the owner of the company being advertised in the video, LOL).

It really can't get any easier than this. Its a straight forward plan that doesn't require money or even any experience and best of all you can start right away. However, it still requires action on your part. You have to really commit yourself and do the work. If you are willing to put enough time and effort into this method, you can easily make money with YouTube.

How to Market a Business Using YouTube

Do you know how to market a business using YouTube? It likely comes as no surprise that YouTube will help get your business seen. YouTube has existed for over 5 years and is without a doubt the most effectual medium for distributing video online. The company, which uses the slogan, "Broadcast Yourself", permits people everywhere to upload and view videos about almost anything. Your business can indeed profit from being represented on this Google-backed media titan. All you need to do is follow a few simple rules.

How to Market a Business Using YouTube
Here is a list of the equipment you will need: a video, a computer, an Internet connection, and a YouTube account (no cost here!). When you first create your YouTube account, a YouTube "Channel" will be created for you. A "Channel" is a user profile where visitors can see all of the content you have ever uploaded.

Uploading YouTube Videos Is Easy
To add new content to YouTube, click the "Upload" link in the upper right area of the YouTube home page. If you didn't already sign in, you will be prompted to sign in to your YouTube account. YouTube has some limitations as to the length of your video content. Keep your video file size to less that 2 GB (2,000 MB or 2,000,000 KB) or about 15 minutes in length and you will not run into upload problems. Keep in mind that High Definition video creates larger files than Standard Definition video for the same length video. Despite the size allowed by YouTube, try to keep the length of your videos to close to 5 minutes to avoid possibly boring your audience.

Finding your video on YouTube
One of the most important components to know about how to market a business using YouTube is associating info to your content. In order for YouTube users to find your content, you are either going to tell them specifically where to find it using a web address of some sort or they are going to search and find it using either the search tool within YouTube itself or another search engine like Google, etc. In fact, in most cases, customers find YouTube content using the search engines. Given that, again, it is paramount that you associate info to your content.

Describe your content
While your video is uploading to the YouTube web site, you can supply some details about the video. In the Video Information section, while filling in a title, description, "tags" and category, it is important to think like the customer you would like to find the video. Think of words people use every day. What will they be searching for? These search terms are called "keywords" or "keyword phrases". For example, if you have a home based business in obedience dog training, people might search on "agility training". Be sure to include these keywords or keyword phrases in each of the title, description, and tag fields. That said, do NOT overload these fields by stuffing too many keywords or keyword phrases into these fields. Keep in mind, people are reading this information too, not just computers, so pick the best keywords or keyword phrases and use them.

In the Broadcasting and Sharing Options section, you have the choice of making the video Public, Private, or Unlisted. In order to make your video available to the largest number of viewers, you will likely want to make your video content Public so viewers can easily find your business. Setting your broadcasts to Private means only those you invite can see your videos. Unlisted means only those with a specific link can see your videos. Private and Unlisted videos are not searchable via search engines like Google, etc.

If you have a local business or wish to market to specific geographic locations, you can dictate a Map Location in the Date and Map section as well. This would be helpful, for example, if a customer searching for the aforementioned obedience dog training customer searched using the "obedience training ridgefield ct" keyword phrase.

YouTube Video Tips
Here are some final tips about how to market a business using YouTube. Make sure you have suitable lighting. Shoot your video outdoors if possible. If you are using a video camera to record yourself or another person indoors, make sure images are well lit and easily visible. If you are creating a video slideshow, use high-quality pictures. Do not use blurry or distorted images in your video slideshows. Viewers will become quickly annoyed, your message will not be well conveyed, and you may lessen the value of your brand.

How To Get Free Traffic From YouTube Using The Video Response Technique

If you have videos uploaded to YouTube and you are not using this technique you are throwing away perfectly good targeted traffic. Here is how it works:

You can not only comment on other people's videos on YouTube with a written comment but you can respond to a YouTube media using a clip of your own. YouTube has a way that you can record a video of yourself directly from your webcam or your can choose to use a media clip that is already in uploaded to your YouTube channel as a response to somebody else's movie. Essentially a video response is a filmed comment. You are making a comment on a video with your own media clip instead of writing a comment.

This technique really works to get free traffic to your website. I did a test. I set up a YouTube account and uploaded about 40 versions of the same movie. (YouTube only allows you to upload the same exact short film to your YouTube account once but if you edit each video slightly it becomes a unique video to YouTube even though essentially it is the same video.)

I did not do any type of promotion for these videos except that I used each video as a video response to another popular video in my niche on YouTube. Here is a sample of the results after one month:

2923 views of my videos in one month using this technique. Over a period of a year that would be 36,000 free views of my videos just by using the videos to respond to other popular videos. Not bad!

Now if you are in a super popular niche you could have better success. But the bottom line is that if you have videos on YouTube right now and they are NOT being used to respond to other people's videos you are losing traffic.

It is very easy to do a video response.

1. Log into your YouTube account.

2. Use YouTube's search feature to look for a popular video on your topic. If you want to find the most viewed under "search options" sort by "view count" and you will get the most popular videos first.

3. Once you find the video you want to respond to then click the white space where you could make a written comment. A little icon will appear which says "Attach A Video." If you are logged into your YouTube account you will see a list of YouTube videos that are in your YouTube account.

4. Click on the video in your account that you want to be used as a video response.

5. Click "Use The Selected Video" button.

That is it. Now your video will be a video response to that video. When people look in the comments are of the video they will see your response video. Not too many people outside the internet marketing field are using this technique. Some channel owners will have this feature blocked or they have their settings set so that they must approve the video response but many do not.

So go to your YouTube account now and start using your videos to respond to other videos and start getting your free traffic now! If you found this post helpful please like it in Facebook and comment.

How to Start Making an Income Using YouTube Videos

Do not think you will upload a video and have it become one of the most viewed YouTube videos. It can happen that way but it is not common. Most videos that have large viewership also are part of a group on a channel and that channel has lots of videos uploaded consistently thereby creating a following. More about this later when I discuss promoting your video. First, let me point out the business of YouTube.

Users upload 35 hours of video every minute. YouTube has created the largest online video community in the world.

YouTube's revenue has grown from somewhere between $100 million and $250 million in 2008 to just under $1 billion in 2010 and its monthly global audience has grown from 344 million unique users to 500 million.

With numbers like that YouTube is an advertising haven to major brands. "The numbers almost did not make sense," said Adam Butler, a brand manager at Kraft Foods for Philadelphia Cream Cheese, after revenue had been raised by 5% as a result of 10 million views to their promotional video with 100,000 clicking through to the site. "It's bigger than TV" he said.

After you have uploaded videos that are hopefully funny, informative, entertaining or so intriguing the viewer can't look away there are a few things you can do to promote them. A channel is created for everyone with the account so you can customize it by changing the background, adding a theme with a color scheme, a photo of yourself and you can paste a link on your channel leading to your personal website or a blog. After you have this channel customized to your liking invite people to subscribe to it.

Sharing your video with friends and family through email with the share button is a good way to let them know you have a video and ask them to subscribe to your channel.

Video responses can increase traffic to your videos by leaving video responses to other videos in the same niche as yours. You can create a logo so that each time you leave a response you stand out more. It is like your avatar, it brands you.

Video sharing sites can boost your presence online. This works by uploading a video as you would except instead of going to just YouTube your video will be distributed to numerous other video sites as well. Two places you can do this are Tubemogul.com and Trafficgeyser.com.

Now that you have hopefully increased your amount of views you can get started on your revenue stream by becoming a YouTube Partner. The criteria are: original content, own the content, post regularly, adhere to the community guidelines and have thousands of views.

YouTube started its partner program in 2007 to encourage audience-attracting producers to create more and better content. It sells against their videos and gives them more than half the revenue. It began with just a handful of partners with the intention to grow to a massive global scale.

There are now more than 10,000 partners in the program and it is estimated that the top 350 to 400 have been able to quit their day jobs and earn a living off the platform. Some of the monetization tools that help boost revenue for partners are using annotations, tagging, related videos, response videos and playlists.

These tools promote an increase in revenue, viewership and interaction. The creators of these videos can interact with fans in a way TV cannot. Some of the successful top partners are:

Smosh, a sketch group;

Dane Boedigheimer, who has the number 1 web show, The Annoying Orange; and

Fred Figglehorn, the squeaky-voiced creation of teenage comedian Lucas Cruikshank, who made the successful leap to TV last summer with a hit movie on Nickelodeon.

These successful creators of original content often get Hollywood agents and managers. HBO has even picked up one of the skits from "Funny or Die", a channel that makes funny videos that feature your favorite comedians and celebrities. Founded by Will Ferrell, "Funny or Die" makes 25 videos a month with the majority getting hits from millions of viewers.

How-to-videos can make you a fortune and propel you to becoming a YouTube Star. For instance Michelle Phan has a multitude of makeup tutorial videos on YouTube demonstrating her beauty know how using her favorite makeup, Lancome. Her how to on Lady GaGa's poker face look has garnered 24 million views. Lancome took notice and offered her a video deal.

Similarly, consistent posting of YouTube videos on their skateboard tricks has propelled California 12 year old twins Nic and Tristan Pueshe into YouTube Stars. They started skateboarding when they were five. After years of hard work and mastering impressive jumps, kickflips and switch-stances they have been offered a movie deal starring themselves called Nic & Tristan go Mega Dega.

While there is no magic formula to having the most viewed YouTube Video the overall theme to becoming a YouTube Star, and leading you on your path to income, seems to start with doing something you love to do. If you start there your genuine passion and commitment comes across and that is what people will resonate with. Your passion coupled with great content helps people find value in your postings and that will keep them coming back and sharing your video with others.
